Gifted and Talented Students: The school provides a comprehensive program that endeavours to meet the needs of all children. The needs of gifted and talented students are met through individual programs offered in each class. In addition, the school provides opportunities for students to enhance their skills in debating, chess, thinking skills and computer technology. The school offers an enrichment program for students with special talents. Two teachers coordinate the program and teach students who have been nominated by thier teachers and parents. The program operates on a user-pays basis.
The Structure of the Program: The three Key Learning Areas selected for the Enrichment Program are: Language/Expression, Solution Finding and Visual Arts. Children are withdrawn from classes and grouped in Years K-2, 3-4 and 5-6 for each KLA. The Enrichment year is divided into two semesters each of 14 weeks. The program operates for three days each week. One day is allocated for each group. Each day is divided into three sessions.
To provide a low teacher for each pupil ratio, ensuring greater attention for individual students, a team teaching model has been adopted. This also allows for professional consultation of specific needs, presents a wider opportunity for child/ teacher personality match, and shares the extra responsibility for program development.
Children are placed in the program upon nomination from the following sources: parents, teachers, peers and school counsellor.
